The subject of the invention is a multicomponent cobalt-containing oxide catalyst for low-temperature methane combustion of the structure of the binary cobalt(II) and cobalt(III) oxide, and comprises cobalt ions at the level of 30-70 weight %, nickel ions at the level down to 25 weight %, promoting amounts of the alkaline earth metals at the level of 0-10 weight %, and oxide ions at the level of 10-40 weight % as well as a method for preparation of the catalyst for low-temperature combustion of methane.
