The invention relates to a method for determining direction according to the monopulse principle using a radar antenna array consisting of a plurality of receiver elements, the phase position of which can be individually set, the individual receiver elements of the antenna array being arranged in a plurality (N) of horizontal lines (Z1, Z2, … ZN), involving the following method steps: establishing sum and difference channels (sΔ, sΣ) from the signals of the individual receiver elements, - establishing the monopulse ratio (r) from the sum and difference channels (sΔ, sΣ), - measuring the angle deviation of the target of the main beam direction of the antenna in horizontal direction by comparing the monopulse ratio (r) with the monopulse characteristic curve derived from the antenna characteristic of the antenna array, the phase positions of the individual antenna elements being set such that a receiver direction that deviates alternatingly to the left and to the right relative to the main beam direction of the antenna is obtained for each line, and in that the receiver signals are combined for each line, and in that the sum channel (sΣ) of the monopulse processing is generated from the combination of the signals of all the lines of the antenna array, the signals of the lines deviating to the left and/or right entering with the same sign, and in that the difference channel (sΔ) of the monopulse processing is generated from the combination of the signals of all the lines of the antenna array, the signals of the lines deviating to the left and/or right entering with opposed signs.
