The present invention relates to a tracking method of a tracking toy, comprising the following steps: generating or setting a data detection sequence, and using the data detection sequence to modulate a carrier signal to obtain a modulated carrier signal; outputting the modulated carrier signal as the drive signal of a working detection unit while acquiring the alternating component of the output signal of the working detection unit; comparing whether the alternating component matches the generated or set data detection sequence; if yes, then not outputting a steering control signal corresponding to the working detection unit, and if no, then outputting the steering control signal corresponding to the working detection unit for a preset time; and alternating the working detection unit and the detection unit not working. The present invention also relates to a device and toy realizing the above method. The present invention has a lower requirement for power supply, can judge accurately and is less likely to be interfered.
