This invention provides processes for preparation of 3-alkyl indoles of Formula 1 : wherein A¹, A² and A³ are independently selected from the group consisting of: H, X, OR¹, CN, CONR²₂ and C0₂R³; R¹ is C₁-C₆ alkyl; R² is H or C₁-C₆ alkyl; R³ is C₁-C₆ alkyl; LG is a leaving group; X is a halogen; and n is 1, 2 or 3.
