The invention relates to a device for applying a cleaning fluid to a wheel (R; R1; R2) of a vehicle (V) in a vehicle washing installation (1) using a spray nozzle (4, 4') and a wheel washing brush (5) that is driven in rotation and can be moved by means of a guide (6) between a rest position remote from a wheel and a cleaning position on the wheel (R; R1; R2), of an associated vehicle washing installation and to an associated method. The invention achieves the aim of permitting economical application of the cleaning fluid matched to the size of the wheels to be cleaned by using an aforementioned device, in which the spray nozzle (4) is arranged on a movable delivery device for the purpose of movement between a rest position remote from a wheel and a spraying position at a spraying distance (A) from the wheel (R; R1; R2), a vehicle washing installation (1) having such a device and an associated method comprising the steps of: a) determining the position of the wheel (R; R1; R2) in the washing direction (W), b) determining the distance of the wheel (R; R1; R2) from the device, c) moving the spray nozzle (4) to the spraying position at the spraying distance (A) from the wheel (R; R1; R2), d) spraying cleaning fluid onto the wheel (R; R1; R2) using the spray nozzle (4) and moving the spray nozzle (4) along the wheel (R; R1; R2) in the washing direction (W) and e) terminating the spraying operation when the front end of the wheel (R; R1; R2) in the washing direction (W) has been reached.
