This HMD system is provided with a coordinate-system setting unit, a segment selection unit, and an image generation unit. The coordinate-system setting unit sets up a cylindrical coordinate system in real space, said cylindrical coordinate system being partitioned into a plurality of segments. On the basis of the orientation of a display, the segment selection unit sets one of the segments of the cylindrical coordinate system to a selection standby state. When the selection of said segment is confirmed, in accordance with the confirmed segment, the image generation unit generates a display image to be displayed on the display.
