The invention relates to a telephone communication system which includes a docking station comprising a recess in which a mobile telephone (3) can be inserted, a telephone handset which can be used instead of the microphone and speaker of the mobile telephone inserted in the recess, and a control unit including a keypad which can be used instead of the keypad of the mobile telephone inserted in the recess, wherein said system is characterised in that the docking station, the telephone handset and the control unit constitute three separate modules - i.e. a docking station module (4), a handset module (1), and a control module (2) - that are mutually connected by releasable mechanical attachment means and releasable electrical connection means, the handset module (1) and the docking station module (4) being suitable for being attached on either side of the control module (2), the position of same relative to the control module being interchangeable.
