The device i.e. air humidifier (1), has a water container (10) for receiving water. Temperature/air humidity sensors (40) control a valve (20) e.g. magnet valve. A heater (70) removes residual water from an air duct (100). The container is actively separated from an atomizer (60) by a distance of 2 cm, preferably 4 cm, and/or includes a separation unit e.g. diaphragm and grid. The air duct includes a controllable evaporation device or the atomizer for substances except water. The container includes an identifier, which is electronically evaluatable by a control element (30).
