The present invention provides a composition containing LY294002 for skin whitening. The composition containing LY294002 for skin whitening reduces the generation of melanin, suppresses the activity of tyrosinase, and reduces the expression of genes and protein related to the generation of melanin for whitening the skin. The composition containing LY294002 for skin whitening has stability which does not have bad influence to cells, and is capable of widely applied to a skin external application, a cosmetic composition, and a pharmaceutical composition.
