The present invention is directed to a method for recovering fatty acid from waste glycerol containing fatty acid salt. More specifically directed to a method for recovering from a detergent or surfactant, a higher fatty acid such as waste glycerol by-product of the biodiesel production process, for use as a raw material of fine chemicals. The method comprises the steps of dissolving the fatty acid by adding an organic solvent to a mixed solution containing a step (S1), the fatty acid to convert the fatty acid salt with a fatty acid by the addition of acid to a mixed solution containing glycerol and fatty acid salt in an organic solvent (S2), separating the organic solvent from the fatty acid is dissolved in a mixed solution (S3), and is carried out through the step (S4) of removing impurities from the dissolved dye and a fatty acid of the organic solvent. ;
