PURPOSE: A head and neck muscle extraction method and an ROI analysis method are provided to extract a longus capitis muscle and a longus colli muscle from a head and neck image using an ultrasonic image photographed by an ultrasonic device and to measure the area of the muscles. CONSTITUTION: An image photographed by a general ultrasonic device is transferred to an apparatus (S101). After the apparatus removes noise from the image, the apparatus preprocesses the image to emphasize a neck bone area in the image (S102, S103). The apparatus combines the preprocessed images and modifies the corresponding image (S104, S105). The apparatus adjusts the contrast of the modified image (S106). The adjusted image is converted into a binary image, and the noise of the binary image is removed (S107, S108). The apparatus extracts a muscle from the image whose noise is removed (S109).
