The present invention relates to a wireless network technology, and more specifically, to a method for forming an efficient network for wireless personal area network (WPAN) devices according to whether the initial operating channels of the WPAN devices are allowed to be manually setup in an IEEE 802.15.4 based WPAN and an IEEE 802.11g based wireless local area (WLAN) combined network environment, which use the same frequencies in a 2.4 GHz band. According to the present invention, an active scanning algorithm is adopted in a non-beacon mode if the initial operating channels of the WPAN devices can be manually setup, and a passive scanning algorithm is adopted in a half-beacon mode if the initial operating channels of the WPAN devices cannot be manually setup, thereby facilitating an efficient and smooth connection through the automatic setup of the WPAN operating channels for the devices.
