The present invention can provide a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery, which includes a source material part containing a layered compound represented by chemical formula 1, and a surface part containing a compound represented by chemical formula 2, wherein the average oxidation number of Mn of the surface part is 3.7-4.0. In chemical formula 1 (LiNi_1-x-yCo_xMn_yO_2), 0=x=1 and 0=y=0.3. In chemical formula 2 (Li_1+xM_yMn_2-x-yO_4), 0=x=0.35, 0=y=1, x and y are not 0 at the same time, and M is a mono- to tri-valent metal or a combination thereof.
