The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for analyzing Hangul handwriting syllable units. The present invention analyzes letter units such as a location, a size, a space, and of each letter and the combination shape of consonants and vowels based on the detailed characteristic point analysis of the letters using the shape, angle, length, slope, etc of the letter. The apparatus and the method analyzes and compares characteristics between the writers by digitizing the characteristics through a measurement inspection and a statistics inspection. The apparatus comprises a scan processing unit for imaging personal handwriting by scanning the personal handwriting for handwriting analysis; a syllable separation unit for recognizing the corresponding handwriting as the Hangul by analyzing information processed in the scan processing unit and for dividing the recognized Hangul into the syllable units; a normalization unit for normalizing the size of the letter divided into the syllable units as the predetermined size; an analysis calculation unit for analyzing projection characteristic values using the combination shape of the consonants and the vowels composing the letters by executing an Euclidean distance measurement inspection using the penetration value of the letters in the letters normalized in the normalization unit and for calculating the projection average value of a width (X shaft) and a length (Y shaft) in one letter using the analyzed projection characteristic value; a matching verification unit for confirming a matching state by comparing confirmation data information corresponding to the stored personal handwriting, which is scanned to inspect the handwriting, with information calculated in the analysis calculation unit; and a storage unit for storing the confirmation data information compared to inspect the handwriting in the matching verification unit.
