Apparatus and Method for Virtual Channel Generation based on Program Rating

A device and a method for virtual channel generation based on program rating are provided to receive and select a broadcasting program with a high program rating in a virtual channel generated to conveniently watch a broadcasting program. In case it does not participate in a virtual channel reception for a reception of a virtual channel information based on a program rating provided by a management server(50), the broadcasting receivers(30a-30n) periodically transmits watched broadcast system channels to the management server. In case it participates in the virtual channel reception, the broadcasting receiver receives the virtual channel information based on the program rating from the management server. The broadcasting receiver receives a broadcast by selecting a popular channel based on the corresponding virtual channel information. The management server receives the broadcast channel information being watched through the corresponding broadcasting receiver which is not participated in the virtual channel reception. The management server selects and stores the virtual channel based on the program rating rank based on the broadcast channel information received. The management server transmits the virtual channel information based on the program rating rank with the broadcasting receiver participating in the virtual channel reception.
