Disclosed is a method for preparing a Cu-Zn-Al-based complex metal oxide catalyst, comprising the steps of: dissolving copper nitrate hydrate, zinc nitrate hydrate, aluminum nitrate hydrate and organic acid in distilled water; acquiring a product by irradiating the dissolved mixed metal salt solution with microwaves while stirring; and generating a Cu-Zn-Al-based complex metal oxide catalyst by pulverizing the product and plasticizing the pulverized product at a temperature of 450 to 500C for six to eight hours. The present invention provides a complex oxide catalyst having activity more excellent than an existing catalyst, can minimize a partial rise in temperature induced by sudden explosion by an excess of the organic acid, can prevent the unevenness of composition of the catalyst in the process of heating and drying, and can reduce production costs owing to a simple production process.
