A method consisting of: incorporating a plurality of substantially continuous fibers into a polymer composite matrix consisting of a liquid polymer starting material and a plurality of particles substantially uniformly distributed throughout the liquid polymer starting material, the plurality of particles having a median diameter of one micrometer or less; pulling fibers impregnated with a polymer composite matrix through an extrusion head; curing the liquid polymer starting material to form cures polymer, and at least a partially cured polymer-composite matrix in the extrusion head, thereby forming a substantially continuous fiber of a heat-shrinkable polymer-composite wire, and, optionally, surrounding a substantially continuous fiber of a heat-shrinkable polymer-composite wire with a corrosion-resistant sheath. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of particles consists of chemically active, surface-modified nanoparticles, additionally consisting of a core of a nanoparticle and a chemically active surface-modifying substance associated with the core of the nanoparticle, wherein the step of curing the liquid polymer source material involves chemically reacting the liquid polymer starting material with a chemically active surface-modifying substance. 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of particles has a median diameter not exceeding 250 nm.
