ABATING OF SHIP ROLLING BY PASSIVE ROLL DAMPING DEVICE AND PASSIVE ROLL DAMPING DEVICE

FIELD: transport.;SUBSTANCE: ship roll is abated by passive roll damping device composed by board compartments-cisterns with working fluid (outboard water) affecting the ship initial stability. Outboard opening of said cisterns are pre-plugged. To decrease roll amplitude said cisterns are flooded in symmetry to level of actual waterline at preset range of ship operating drafts. This decreases the parameters of initial stability by decreasing area and moment of actual waterline area inertia to change the intrinsic ship roll period. At nonworking position of roll damper, outboard openings are plugged. Thereafter, said cisterns are emptied.
