The element i.e. crown (1) has a device adjusting angular orientation of a cover plate (11) relative to a middle part of a watch and comprising parts with flat friction surfaces (231, 31) and a return unit. The plate and one of the parts are moved axially relative to each other between a rest position (P1) in which the plate is secured in rotation with respect to the part, and an orientation adjusting position in which the plate freely rotates around a rotation axis (A-A) of the element. The return unit integrally rotates the plate and the part in the rest position.
