The invention concerns a system (1) and a relative method for the traceability and secure authentication of valuable goods (9), in particular works of art (7), in which the assignment to each work is foreseen (7 ) of an authentication certificate and registration on a database (4) of information and sensitive data corresponding to each work of art (7). In particular, the method involves: - preparing a document (8) with an identification code (11) to be assigned to the artwork to be traced and a pair (10) of labels (3´, 3´´) having the same identification code (11) of the document (8); - collect on the document (8) information and sensitive data relating to the work of art to be traced; - apply one (3´) of the two labels on the back (16) of the artwork (7) and assign the second label (3´´) to the document (8); - report and store in the database (4) the unique identification code (11), together with the information and sensitive data relating to that given work of art (7) to be traced.
