The tunnel wall coating (1) has a drainage layer (3) consisting of surface-active mortar, which is sealed in the tunnel interior side with a solid, water-tight impregnation layer (4). The impregnation layer comprises a layer of surface-active mortar whose pores and capillaries are filled and sealed with an impregnating agent. The drainage layer has a layer thickness of 15 to 40 millimeter and the impregnation layer has a layer thickness of 2 to 5 millimeter. The mortar of the drainage layer comprises pearlite and cement. The impregnation layer comprises sodium silicate with catalysts. An independent claim is included for a method for coating a tunnel wall with a tunnel wall coating.
