The pressure-equalizing device (10) has a reservoir (1) for receiving a pressure equalizing fluid (11), and a dip tube (2), which ends in the pressure equalizing fluid and through which the gas is introduced into the pressure equalizing device. A venting unit (3) is provided, by which a gas compartment in the reservoir is vented. The filling level units are provided to determine and adjust the filling quantity of the pressure equalizing fluid in the reservoir. The filing level unit has a measuring unit (4) for determining a filling level (HH,H,M,L,LL). An independent claim is included for a method for operating a pressure-equalizing device.
