The method involves measuring a variable with a sensor, which characterizes the vibration in phase and amplitude, where the measured variable is correlated directly with the sound performance of the sound generator. The gas pressure is changed, which is applied for operating the sound generator. The change in the measured variable is measured in phase or amplitude. The gas pressure is subsequently changed in the direction as before, if the measured variable displays the gas pressure in phase or amplitude by the change of the gas pressure. The gas pressure is changed in the other direction, when the measured variable displays decreased gas pressure in phase or amplitude to again reach the optimum sound performance. An independent claim is included for a regulating device for a pneumatically operated sound generator.
