The method involves selecting air separation modules (11,12,13) on the basis of a product specification of a module set (1) with different air pressure requirements. A compressor module (2) is provided for compressing the air requirements of all the air separation modules of the module set. The compressor module is provided with compressed air (AIR) to provide a pressure, which is above the operating pressure of the high pressure column. The two of the air separation modules are adapted to different or variable amounts of liquid and gaseous nitrogen product (LOX) or oxygen product (GOX). An independent claim is included for a method for operating an air separation plant.
