The rail wheel (1) comprises a wheel rim (2), a wheel disc (3), and a wheel axle (5) which is arranged in an electric drive unit (4) that is comprised as a permanent-magnet synchronous machine. The permanent-magnet synchronous machine is designed as an external rotor (10) which is arranged in a rotationally fixed manner on the wheel axle, while the stator (9) is arranged encircling the rotor with respect to the wheel axle. The permanent magnets (11) are pressed into a cylindrical sleeve (8). A bore (16) is formed at the center of the wheel axle.
