The method involves irradiating particles (5) with light, where the particles are colored with narrow-band light i.e. blue LED. The scattered particles are detected. An obtained electric signal is amplified and digitized. Particle size representing intensity of multiple digital channels is recorded. An occurrence of Mie-peaks is monitored in a measured size-dependent frequency distribution. A message is output if deviation of the Mie-peaks is present due to the measurement settings standard digital channel. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for detecting concentration of small particles in gas.
