The method involves sorting variations of RR-interval lengths according to different temporal difference values, and storing frequency as temporal difference value distribution in the form of a data set. The distribution is approximated as Boltzmann-distribution in a specified form by determining two parameters. The changes of values determined for the two parameters are identified as changes of frequency of occurrence of extra-systole during continuous revaluation of the distribution with electrocardiogram signals. An independent claim is also included for a device for execution of a method of monitoring the frequency of the occurrence of extra-systole in electrocardiogram signals.
