Coated substrate (10) comprises an oxide layer which was formed by anodizing a physical vapor deposition (PVD) layer of titanium nitride or a nitride of a titanium alloy. The oxide layer reflects incident white light. An independent claim is also included for manufacturing a white oxide layer, comprising: providing a substrate, coating the substrate by a PVD process with titanium nitride or nitride of a titanium alloy, and anodizing the PVD-coating such that an oxide layer is formed, and the white light is reflected.
