The method involves injecting water vapor (D) and nitrogen into a reservoir (80) through an injection hole (70) to reduce viscosity of petroleum (M) provided in the reservoir. The petroleum is partially conveyed from the reservoir, and the nitrogen is produced in a floating body, a ship or platform by cryogenic liquid air separation (20) and/or adsorption preferably by pressure change adsorption. The separation and/or adsorption are carried out at a location of the reservoir. Chemical substances (C) e.g. alkali and/or polymer, are injected into the reservoir.
