The method involves connecting a controller (6) to a fluid system (8) through a control line (7), so that the delivery rate of the variable displacement pump (5) is adjusted. The fluid guided by the control line from the fluid system is filtered prior to entry into the controller of the variable displacement pump through the control line. The capacity of the variable displacement pump is set by the controller in response to a pressure in the control line and depending upon the volume flow in the control line. The fluid from an oil tank (11) is sucked by the pump. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) device for regulating flow rate in fluid system; and (2) filter apparatus for controlling flow rate in fluid system.
