Use of metal phosphates, alone or as a mixture of at least two different metal phosphates or as production-related mixture of metal phosphates as a moisture regulator for producing a moisture-regulating material, where the moisture regulator is finely divided, dispersed or dissolved in a polymer matrix or a polymerizing or curing paint, is claimed. The metal phosphates are orthophosphates, hydrogen phosphates, dihydrogen phosphates, diphosphates, pyrophosphates, tripolyphosphates or highly condensed phosphates having an average chain length of from 3-50 of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, iron, copper, aluminum, manganese, zinc and/or tin. An independent claim is included for the moisture-regulating material comprising a matrix material of a polymer matrix or a polymerizing or curing paint in which the metal phosphates, alone or as a mixture of at least two different metal phosphates or as production-related mixture of metal phosphates, are finely divided, dispersed or dissolved as the moisture regulator.
