Use of a steel alloy made of 0.29-0.32 wt.% carbon, 0.35-0.45 wt.% silicon, 0.8-0.9 wt.% manganese, maximum 0.015 wt.% phosphorus, maximum 0.003 wt.% sulfur, 0.01-0.03 wt.% aluminum, 0.8-0.95 wt.% chromium, 0.3-0.4 wt.% molybdenum, 1-1.65 wt.% nickel, maximum 0.15 wt.% copper, maximum 0.1 wt.% titanium, 0.002-0.003 wt.% boron, 0.02-0.03 wt.% niobium, maximum 0.012 wt.% nitrogen, 0.002-0.55 wt.% cobalt and balance of iron and incidental impurities for producing an armored component, preferably for a vehicle, is claimed. An independent claim is also included for the armored component, preferably for the vehicle.
