The method comprises: applying of a sol gel layer (2) prepared by mixing a pigment particle (3) and an oxide particle (5) on a glass or a glass ceramic substrate; and applying a polymer layer on the sol gel layer, where the sol gel layer is infiltrated with a material of the polymer layer. The sol-gel layer has an average pore diameter of less than 10 nm, preferably less than 5 nm. The polymer layer is applied using a screen printing process before the penetration of the sol-gel layer. The polymer layer and the sol-gel layer are thermally cured at 200[deg] C. An independent claim is included for a composite material having a decorative coating.
