The element has a plate-shaped base body (2) having a thickness (d) and two opposite sides, where the base body includes an insulating material having a compressive strength and a water vapor diffusion resistance. A protection element (1) is arranged at an edge surface, where the protection element includes another insulating material having a compressive strength greater than that of the former insulating material, and a water vapor diffusion resistance larger than that of the former insulating material. The insulating materials are selected from styrofoam, extruded polystyrene rigid foam, polystyrene foam with additives such as graphite, mineral wool, glass wool, wood, polymer, elastomer, composite or foam glass.
