Reference half-cell, useful in potentiometric sensor, comprises potential-forming element immersed in reference solution for generating signal, where reference solution is contained in chamber, which has area provided for test liquid
The reference half-cell comprises a potential-forming element (2) immersed in a reference solution (3) for generating a reference signal. The reference solution is contained in a chamber, which has an area provided for a test liquid (4) on the reference solution. The chamber area comprises a transfer (5). The test liquid is present in contact with the reference solution. The transfer includes a bipolar ion exchange membrane that comprises an anion exchanger and a cation exchanger. The anion exchanger is a selective proton-conducting layer. The reference half-cell comprises a potential-forming element (2) immersed in a reference solution (3) for generating a reference signal. The reference solution is contained in a chamber, which has an area provided for a test liquid (4) on the reference solution. The chamber area comprises a transfer (5). The test liquid is present in contact with reference solution. The transfer includes a bipolar ion exchange membrane that comprises an anion exchanger and a cation exchanger. The anion exchanger is a selective proton-conducting layer, and the cation exchanger is a selective hydroxide-conductive layer. The potential-forming element comprises a pH-glass electrode, an ion-selective electrode, an electrolyte insulator semiconductor structure, an ion-selective field effect transistor, a metal or metal oxide electrode or a reference electrode. The reference half cell further comprises two guides, and an auxiliary electrode present in contact with the test liquid and/or the reference solution. Each guide comprises bipolar ion exchange membranes having opposite polarities. The auxiliary electrode is made of an inert material such as a carbon-based material. A first reference solution is contained in a first chamber. A second reference solution is contained in a second chamber. The chamber comprises a substrate. The bipolar ion exchange membrane is formed on a surface area of the substrate by spanning of a reinforced support structure. An independent claim is included for a potentiometric sensor.
