The method involves driving a valve by a controller or a drive for determining a valve zero-point (NP). Control and a control region (1b) are initialized with a preset valve position bar (VH) and a preset offset (O).The valve is controlled at a notional operating point (AP), which is determined by the valve position bar and the offset, depending on temperature measured by a sensor. The operating point of the valve is determined by statistical evaluation of adjusting commands to the drive over a period. The offset is determined depending on the operating point. An independent claim is also included for a system comprising a valve.
