The method involves detecting a camera (1) around a vehicle, and determining the environmental information from the image of the camera, where the determined environmental information is stored. A currently recorded environment or currently determined environmental information and the stored environmental information is outputted on a display and is integrated into an environment map. The output on the display has a perspective view, particularly a plan view, of the environment. The environmental information in the images has the detected objects or distances to the objects. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program executed on a programmable computing device; and (2) a driving assistance system with an environmental information detection module.
