The method involves utilizing a combination of a measured parameter of an electrical heating energy for heating a liquid (F) in a household appliance (11) or a parameter derived from the measured parameter with a normal value of the parameter. The parameter is the heating period. The liquid is heated to a predetermined temperature difference by electrical heat energy and the corresponding heating period is measured. The temperature difference is determined by a negative temperature coefficient-sensor (16).
