The rail expansion device (14) has rails (17,18), where the latter rail is coupled with the former rail and is movable relative to the former rail. A bearing device is provided, with which the both rails are mounted to each other. A latching unit is formed, with which the both rails are held in a maximum extended position relative to each other. The latching unit is formed such that their latching force holding the latching state is automatically changed depending on loading of the latter rail. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a household appliance with a cooking device; and (2) a method for operating a household appliance.
