The mechanism (1) has a pot-shaped locking housing (2) comprising a pot bottom (3) and a pot wall (4), and multiple locking rolling elements (5) i.e. hollow or solid balls (15), held at the housing. A helical compression spring (7) is arranged in an inner space (6) of the housing, and pre-tensions the rolling elements at the housing. The housing comprises a stopper (8) projecting from the pot wall such that the rolling elements are directly supported by the housing. The stop is formed at an opposite end of the pot bottom. The housing is transform-technically made of metal sheet. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a locking mechanism.
