Application device for applying a metal, preferably zinc, on a component, comprises (a) a feeding unit (4) for feeding the metal to be applied in a solid state, (b) a melting unit (6) for melting the metal to be applied, (c) an outlet opening (8) for discharging the molten metal from the application device, and (d) a pressure chamber (38, 22) for setting a pressure for expelling the molten metal from the outlet opening. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a welding apparatus with a welding tool, preferably burner or welding gun for performing a welding operation of a component, comprising the applicator device mentioned above; and (2) applying a metal, preferably zinc, on a component, comprising supplying the metal to be applied in a solid state using a feeding unit, melting the metal to be applied in the melting unit, discharging the molten metal from the outlet opening by generating the pressure in the pressure chamber.
