The parking space notification system (1) has a computer center (2) and multiple mobile devices (3,4,5), where each mobile device has a position determining unit (3c,4c,5c) for determining a pattern of movement of the respective device and a transmitting- and receiving unit (3a,4a,5a). The computer center is provided to detect parking processes depending on the patterns of movement transmitted to the computer center and to generate messages depending on the detected parking processes. An independent claim is included for a method for notifying free parking spaces.
