The method involves providing (S1) the water-containing cell culture with magnetic particles, where the water-containing cell culture offset with magnetic particles is applied (S2) with a magnetic field for producing the forces. The forces compress the water-containing cell culture. The water is displaced from the water-containing cell culture to their dewatering. The magnetic particles are made from a soft-magnetic, ferromagnetic material and from a magnetite or a cobalt-nickel-iron compound. An independent claim is included for a device for dewaterning a water-containing cell culture, and for use in a system for producing a biological substance, particularly biofuels.
