The device has a locking element (9) provided with a peripheral locking surface in a pivoting area at a free end (11) of a locking lever (8) and comprising an axial-engaging surface to which abutment surfaces (12, 13) of the locking lever come to rest to an outer shift gate upon rotation of a switch shaft (1) adjacent to a shift gate.
