The concentration device has an adsorption medium which is arranged and configured along a flow path (110) of the sample to absorb a portion of the sample flowing along the flow path. A control unit (70) is so configured for local tempering of a portion of the sample by generating a temperature profile in the mobile phase or in the adsorption medium that a desorption of the portion of the sample is stimulated from the adsorption medium by the tempering. The temperature profile is spatially entrained for desorbing along the flow path, such that the desorption of the portion of the sample is stimulated in a concentrated volume region of a liquid mobile phase. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a sample separation device for separating fractions of a sample in a mobile phase; and (2) a method for concentrating a sample entrained with a liquid mobile phase.
