The method involves measuring a magnet probe current by a winding (105) for a magnet probe current. The measured magnet probe current is compared with a threshold current. An output voltage is applied at the winding for measuring the magnet probe current based on the comparison. The measured magnet probe current is compared with a preset value. A regulating signal is determined based on the comparison. A compensation current to compensation windings (103) is adjusted based on the regulating signal. A current in a primary conductor (102) is determined based on the adjusted compensation current. An independent claim is also included for a device for current measurement in a conductor.
