The bipolar plate (1) comprises an open gas distributor structure (2) that is located on a separator plate. The flow guide elements (5) are brought into the gas distributor structure for formation of flow channels that direct the flow of gas from a feed channel (3) to a drain channel (4). The gas distributor structure is formed of metallic structure such as expanded metal, froth or wire mesh. The flow guide elements are formed with guide bars that are integrally formed on the separator plate.
