The charging system (1) has a power supply terminal for supply to a connected load. The charging portions (5) are arranged for charging several vehicle batteries (6) of electric car through the power supply terminal and the direct current regulators (4'). The number of the direct current regulators is greater than the number of charging portions. One of the direct current regulators is optionally connected to two charging portions exactly. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the charging system.
