The method involves determining a spacing between a track and a body of a motor car or between movable landing gear components of the motor car. A control variable is determined to adjust beam range depending on determined distance. The control variable is determined based on function of signals of a sensor e.g. greed rate sensor and steering angle sensor. A sensor system is provided with speed sensors to sense running speed of a vehicle, where signals are utilized for reflecting a curvature of a road in a vehicle travel path. An independent claim is also included for a control device for adjusting light width of a headlight of a motor car.
