The unit has inlet lines (38, 52, 56) i.e. spacers, and inlet valve (40, 42) to be arranged in the inlet lines to control inflow of brake fluid from a hydraustic break pressure transmitter i.e. feed pump element (34), to wheel brake cylinders (54, 58) of a vehicle brake assembly. An up-branched bypass pipe (78) and a bypass valve (80) are arranged in the bypass line, so that the inflow of the brake fluid is passed around the inlet valve according to the need. Brake fluid cross-sectional area of the bypass valve is greater than that of the inlet conduit and the inlet line. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a vehicle brake assembly.
